History

Beginnings

M.A.P. Mechanical Contractors, Inc. was founded in 1977 by Max Miller and John Popp as a small mechanical contractor that did specialty work with a few employees. Max Miller was the estimator and John Popp was the field and shop manager. In 1989 Max Miller retired and John Popp continued the business. Tim McAtamney was hired as the chief estimator and project manager. M.A.P. began focusing on larger projects with a larger workforce of welders, pipefitters and plumbers.

Today

At the present time M.A.P. is considered to be a medium-sized business and employes 100-150 employees. M.A.P.'s projects consist of process piping, boiler work, commercial, government, industrial, plumbing, pipefitting and welding. These jobs are larger and require other estimators, to compete with rival companies to supply the lowest bid. Projects being bid by M.A.P. are determined by location, the availability of the workers, the location of the projects, and the time frame. In the 1990's work came from Evart at Kalium Chemicals, Dow Chemical Dow Corning, Hemlock Semi Conductor (HSC) and Central Michigan University (CMU). At Present Projects are at Universities, various schools, hospitals, pipeline projects, solar, chemical and industrial chemical companies.
